Surgery

This section of the website covers the various surgery options available to an individual with GID. As Male to Female and Female to Male surgery are both quite different we have divided them into two separate sections. Each section contains a full description of the types of surgery that may be required - depending on your own personal circumstances. As with all major surgery most, if not all, of the procedures carry a great deal of risk and all avenues should be explored before undertaking any operation.

You should conduct as much research as you can in any procedure. Being fully informed of the possible after effects will enable you to handle any problems that may occur. You should also research the history of your chosen surgeon. Ensure that he/she is fully qualified to carry out the operation that you are asking for. Verify with others who have had work does by your chosen surgeon that the results lived up to expectations and that any problems that may have resulted were rectified by the surgeon with the minimum of fuss and cost. Do not select the surgeon who gives you the cheapest price for a procedure. If it seems too good to be true - it usually is. Conversely if a surgeon that charges you the most doesn't mean that he/she is the best. This cannot be stressed enough research, Research, RESEARCH!!! If you don't and something does go wrong it could very well be that it's entirely your own fault for not checking.

Be sensible about what procedures you want. If you can try and base your decision around what you can afford to do and what you need in order to successfully live your life in your chosen gender. You should note that surgery alone is not the Holy Grail. It will not make you in to the perfect specimaen of your chosen gender. If you have emotional problems that you haven't successfully dealt with before surgery, you'll still have emotional problems after surgery. There is a serious possibility that not dealing with any life, family or emotional problems before surgery with led to a "What have I done situation?" and this can be a very troubling and difficult situation to handle.
