This section contains information on laser hair removal. It contains information on the types of laser treatments available at present in Ireland. How lasers work. Cost. And locations of offices offering laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal was first performed experimentally about 20 years before it became commically available in the mid 1990's. Laser and light-based methods are sometimes called phototricholysis or photoepilation. There are a number of different types of laser treatments available. Each one has a different method of lasering and some are not actual lasers.
It should be noted that in the US claims of "permant" hair removal by laser by advertisers offer laser hair removal were banned by the FTA in ????. This is mainly due to the fact that lasers are not, at this time, a permant hair removal option. At present only Electrolysis kills hairs permenatly. Laser are at best a "hair reducing" option. In other words it will reduce the number of hairs on an area being treated, but it will not kill off the hair entirely. It should also be noted that there is anicdotal evidence that some lasers have a better reducing effect then others.
Lasers work best on fair (untanned) skin and dark hair. Lasers will have no effect on light, blonde or grey hairs - this is due to the way the laser works.
Laser treatment requires a number of sessions in order to be effect. The number of sessions will variry from person to person but in general a mimimum of six should be performed. It should be noted that lasering is offerred on a "per-area" basis and the cost pre-treatment is based on the area size. eg. - write an example.
